Tucked under a tent away from the rest of the rabble at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is McLaren's stunning 12C Can-Am Edition Racing Concept. With a generous helping of McLaren Orange paint ladled over wild bodywork, engineers crafted this machine as the ultimate racing interpretation of the already formidable MP4-12C GT3. The aggressive front splitter and serious rear wing help generate 30 percent more downforce than the hardware found on the race-going MP4-12C, and engineers wrung an additional 14 horsepower from the mid-mounted V8. Power now sits at 630 ponies.
So, what does McLaren have planned for this monster? The company isn't saying, though it's unlikely we'll see the beast compete on track any time soon. The wild aero work alone is enough to exclude the 12C Can-Am Edition from GT3 competition. Instead, think of the winged 12C as a tribute to the no-holds-barred Can-Am races of days gone by.
